So how many of you still do any hacking or have moved on to pentests/professional security gigs?

Also anyone go to any conferences?

I still keep up with everything, but I’m just a lowly linux admin.. Though I guess I’d have to thank some of the Hacker chat room people, Started using Slackware because of it (I’m mainly a Gentoo user at home..Red Hat at work ’cause I havtah)

Lowly ISP admin here. I can lose my job just by talking about hacking something, whee.
I’ve spent most of my life on slackware…never found a distro good enough to replace it. I’m anal about native compiling so package-based distros don’t get me off.
Though for the hell of it I’ve been messing with OpenSUSE…
    Not bad.

I’m sort of a “professional hacker”. With one of my gigs, I’m into search engine optimization (SEO– division of Internet Marketing). My job is to reverse engineer the algorithms used to “weigh” websites and to re-invent those particulars across our clients’ sites. fun stuff!

SEO isn’t hacking, its just underhanded crap that has its moment and can land you black listed on Google depending on your tactics being that spammy or not. Oh well, I never bothered much with it and the sites that do still remain below anything I do. I prefer relevant linking to other sites that are also well ranked.

^5 for being part of ruining the web, I don’t much care for it even though I work with it.
